The Honorable Joe Lieberman is receiving the Bryce Harlow Award for his distinguished career and significant contributions to the advancement of business-government relations. By fostering understanding, trust, respect and cooperation between the business and government sectors, Senator Lieberman has benefited the country as a whole and has made significant contributions to the development of sound public policy.
Now in his fourth and final term representing Connecticut in the United States Senate, Senator Lieberman has earned a national reputation as a thoughtful, principled, and effective legislator. Senator Lieberman is Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which is responsible for oversight of the Department of Homeland Security and assuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal Government. In addition, he is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and he is chairman of the Subcommittee on Airland. Senator Lieberman is a vocal advocate in support of America’s military and he has worked tirelessly to protect the environment and improve the quality of our nation’s education and healthcare systems.

Ms. Josephine Cooper is receiving the Business-Government Relations Award for her significant contributions to the advocacy profession through her life-long career as an exemplary role model. Ms. Cooper is chief executive of Josephine Cooper LLC, a Washington-based consulting firm which provides crisis management, public affairs and communications services to companies, trade associations and individuals. In 2010, she retired as group vice president, public policy and government/industry affairs for Toyota where she directed federal and state government affairs, legislative, regulatory and compliance issues.
Prior to joining Toyota in 2004, Ms. Cooper was president and CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a coalition of car and light truck manufacturers. She has also served as vice president for regulatory affairs at the American Forest & Paper Association, and senior vice president at the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association. Ms. Cooper's broad policy expertise includes senior positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and on Capitol Hill.
